COSHH assessments, MSDSs and any other safety documentation: ‘HAZTROL’.
DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations)
DSEAR requires that the hazards associated with the flammable and explosive properties
of materials be properly assessed and controlled. While materials classified as flammable
or explosive clearly present a risk, other less obvious materials also do so. The
dust from any material that is capable of burning may create a dust cloud that could
explode. Sugar, grain and flour dust clouds have all created major explosions leading
to loss of life.
The process involves identifying potential flammable or explosive materials, assessing
how frequently an explosive atmosphere may form, allocating a Zone Classification
to the area and then implementing the precautions relevant to that classification.
This will include the correct selection of equipment and working practices.
Undertake a complete DSEAR assessment of your process.
Assist your personnel in the undertaking of their own assessment.
